Madden NFL Mobile Release 6
Release 6.0 of Madden Mobile went live on August 18th, 2015. It’s a whole new football season, so this update had a lot of changes in it. The biggest change was to our server back-end. We did a lot of work in order to shore up the servers so that they can withhold a heavier load. The biggest change you will notice is the whole new UI. The slide-out navigation bar helps flip between areas of the game much easier. It’s a whole new football seasons, so everyone’s team has been reset and last year’s team has been stored in the Trophy Room as a “Legacy Team”. You will be able to play with your Legacy Team in special Live Events. Release 6.1 was released on September 8th. It had several high profile bug and crash fixes. It fixed the head-to-head exploit which allowed the player to get an extra drive. It also introduced better passing while the QB is on the run. Release 6.2 was released on September 24th to fix the incorrect aspect ratio that was showing up on devices using iOS9.
Release 5.0 of Madden Mobile went live on June 15th, 2015. It has three major updates. First, it adds the ability for our content team to release Mini-Camp Live Events. In these events, the players will be in shorts and playing in a practice stadium. There’s also some new drills that are available to our content team like Passing into a Zone, Passing to a Primary Receiver, Obstacle Course, and Playing as a Receiver. Second, we’ve added your Season Score to the game. This score is your indicator to how well you’ve been building the team. When the new season comes on August 19th, the higher your score, the better your rewards will be. Finally, the biggest update for this release is an whole new UI engine under the hood. You can’t really see the difference, but the UI should be loading faster and seem more responsive. This change will help us do some cooler things down the road. Release 5.1 was released on June 24th, 2015. It adds a 64-bit executable for compatible iOS devices. It also fixed a few bugs: better handling of bad network connections, debug text on iOS, and a crash on the Friends head-to-head part of the game. Release 5.2 was released on July 7th, 2015. This was put out to try and help the increase in Network Timeouts that people were reporting.

Madden NFL Mobile released on August 26th, 2014. I joined the team on the tail end of last years game right after we finished NCAA Football 14. I put away my Producer hat and put my Development Director hat back on. We had a creative shake-up at the beginning of the year and so we decided to try a different approach to the game. From a project management stand-point, I had to change the way we approached things. I was moving from a yearly iterative title to one that was going to be run more like a service. We stayed in two-week long development sprints the whole year, even when we went to a bug-fix mode and our Finaling period was one of the best I’ve ever been on. We had only one week where we worked late hours. From a feature stand-point, I think the game is a very compelling mobile game. Our aim was to deliver short experiences. This was done with playing a drive against random opponents or friends; Live Events, small challenges for card pack rewards; and Seasons, short 1 – 2 minute quarter games against the real NFL opponents. There’s three major improvements that I’m excited about. The first one is Defensive Strategy. This allows you to pick plays that your team has a chance to counter while someone is playing you in head-to-head. This brings a level of strategy to our head-to-head mode. Next, is Live Events that are going to be tied into games of the week. For example, expect limited time Live Events to show up during a Thursday night game with exclusive content you can only get during that game. This is great because I think a great use case for our game is sitting on the couch playing during the commercials or half-time. The final major improvement, was released in our first title update: Leagues. We’ve only scratched the surface with this feature. It will allow you to band together with 32 of your friends or strangers to play head-to-head. You also get “profit sharing” where you get some coins each time your league mates purchase something. Overall, Madden NFL Mobile is a great little game.
